In keeping with a long tradition, the SCCRE coordinates the participation of many different institutions and their representatives in international educational research projects and represents Switzerland with several governmental and non-governmental organizations, for example the Board of the Centre for Educational Research and Innovation of the OECD (CERI) in Paris or the Consortium of Institutions for Development and Research in Education in Europe (CIDREE) in Brussels.
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has two bodies dealing with education and schooling:
The Education Policy Committee deals with general questions of education and education policy. The director of the SCCRE represents the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Ministers of Education (EDK|CDIP) on the Education Committee. At their sixth meeting, the delegates of the OECD member states have elected Prof. Dr. Stefan C. Wolter as the new President of the OECD Group of National Experts on Vocational Education & Training.
The Education Committee carries out regular thematic studies in the member countries, e.g. Educational Research and Development; Equity; Attracting, Developing and Retaining Effective Teachers; PISA. The SCCRE staff has contributed to some of these reports.
The Centre for Educational Research and Innovation deals with educational research projects. The director of SCCRE is a member of the CERI governing board.
Within the general context of CERI, the German-speaking member countries of the OECD organise thematic seminars on educational issues once every two years. The director of SCCRE is a member of the steering committee in charge of these seminars.

At their eleventh meeting, the delegates of the OECD member states have reelected Prof. Dr. Stefan C. Wolter as the President of the OECD Group of National Experts on Vocational Education & Training. The OECD is conducting a broad-based study entitled “Skills beyond School” to examine and compare higher vocational education and training in different countries, including Switzerland. For the “Skills beyond School” study, Switzerland served as a test country for the review to be conducted in 2011. A comparative report was published in 2013.

CIDREE stands for “Consortium of Institutions for Development and Research in Education in Europe”. It was set up in 1990, and its mission (expressed in very general terms) is to contribute to improving the quality of education in Europe. More specifically, the members wish to pass on the latest findings as regards educational research and development by pooling their experience, by carrying out joint projects, by contributing to one another’s human resources advancement and by distributing selected publications.
In November 2010 the Director of the SCCRE was elected President of the CIDREE for the years 2011-2012. The Secretariat is hosted by the SCCRE since the beginning of 2012.
As host of the annual conference of CIDREE in 2007, the SCCRE had organized the Preconference on the subject of «The Education of 4- to 8-Year-Olds – Re-designing School Entrance Phase» and published the yearbook which includes reports from 10 member countries to current questions in the school entrance phase. The yearbook can be downloaded on the CIDREE website.
